Using Translation

The County of San Mateo has added a translation feature developed by Google Translate to assist web visitors in understanding information on this website in a variety of foreign languages. Please be aware that Google Translate, a free third party service which the County does not control, provides automated computer translations that may not give you an exact translation. The County cannot guarantee the accuracy of translations through Google Translate so translations should not be considered exact and only used as a rough guide. Anyone relying on information obtained from Google Translate does so at his or her own risk. The County disclaims and will not accept any liability for damages or losses of any kind caused by the use of the Google Translate feature.

We have a variety of resources for you. Check back often to view new resources or sign-up to receive our email announcements.

SCHOOLS PROGRAM STAFF

Our staff is comprised of experienced sustainability and environmental literacy educators ready to lead lessons for small groups, green teams, environmental clubs, classrooms or the entire school. We specialize in differentiating our approach to accommodate all grades, learning styles and EL learners in topics ranging from but not limited to:

  • The 4R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot-Compost
  • Resource Conservation
  • Municipal Waste Management Issues
  • Zero Waste Principles
  • Plastic Pollution Prevention
  • Worm and Backyard Composting

In addition to facilitating lessons for students, Schools Program staff can also assist you with the following:

Our free resources are often just an email away. Contact us for any of the following:

  • Free Worm Bins and Backyard Composting Units
  • Free Pound of Red Earthworms (for Worm Composting Bins)
  • Free 4R’s Games Classroom Sets
  • Loaned Classroom Re-Use Kits (Recycled Paper Making, CD Spinners, Pizza Box Solar Ovens)
  • Energy Efficiency Toolkit (Available to borrow from any San Mateo County Library)

FUNDING

The Sustainability Department previously offered 4R’s Mini and Mega Grants in the amounts of up to $5,000 and up to $25,000 respectively. Jump to the 4R’s Grants page to view past 4R’s Grant recipients.
