Government Operations
In 2007, San Mateo County joined the “Cool Counties” initiative, a joint effort of the Sierra Club and 12 counties across the U.S. to reduce local greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 80% by the year 2050. Our baseline emissions inventory for 2005 was conducted by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. Since then, we’ve completed the County’s GHG inventory for our government operations for the years 2010 and 2015. Overall, the County’s emissions from our operations have decreased over time by 3% from 2005 levels. To ensure that emissions continue to decrease, we will continue to conduct an inventory of the County’s government operations every five years. Unincorporated San Mateo County
